Yamaha has officially launched the much-awaited XSR155 in the Indian motorcycle market, priced at just ₹1.5 lakh. Let's dive deeper into the detail about the all-new Yamaha XSR155.

Design and First Impressions

At first glance, the Yamaha XSR155 carries a modern-retro appeal that blends classic elements with modern design cues.

The bike has a round-shaped LED headlight featuring the XSR badging, giving it a vintage yet premium look.

The Indian variant stands apart from its European counterpart by featuring LED indicators, which are compact, metal-built, and add to the overall aesthetic.

The headlight dome is color-matched with the body, offering a clean and cohesive design.
Moving to the suspension setup, the bike comes with 37mm golden USD front forks.

The version shown here has blue-colored forks, but black ones are also available in other color variants.

The front fender is painted in the same blue color as the rest of the bike, maintaining uniformity.

Wheels and Braking System

The front wheel is a 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheel equipped with a 282mm disc brake. It comes with Bi-brake calipers for effective stopping power.

The front tire has a 100/80 section, though Yamaha has not included the block-pattern dual-purpose tires seen on the European model.

It’s worth noting that while the rear tire is a radial one, the front tire is not. Despite this, the setup ensures good grip and stability for city and highway riding.

Frame and Engine Details

The XSR155 is built on Yamaha’s proven Deltabox frame, the same chassis used in the MT-15 and R15 models. This frame is known for its excellent rigidity and balance.

Under the tank, you’ll find the familiar 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC engine, the same unit that powers the MT-15 and R15 V4. It delivers 18.4 PS of maximum power and 14.2 Nm of peak torque, ensuring a peppy and refined performance.

The radiator, engine finish, and plastic engine cover are similar to the MT-15 setup, maintaining Yamaha’s high-quality standards.

Fuel Tank and Instrument Console

The fuel tank has a capacity of 11 liters and proudly carries the XSR 3D embedded logo. The fuel cap is positioned at the top, while the key slot is placed at the front, much like other Yamaha models.

The bike features a fully digital round LCD instrument console. Above the display, there’s a Yamaha logo, and the console features a silver-colored finish, enhancing its retro-modern theme.

Electronics and Features

In terms of electronics, Yamaha has equipped the XSR155 with some advanced features for its class. It includes:
  • Assist and Slipper Clutch
  • Traction Control System (TCS)
  • Dual-Channel ABS
These features ensure smooth gear shifts, enhanced control, and improved safety under various riding conditions.

The switchgear quality is top-notch and similar to the MT-15. On the left handlebar, you’ll find controls for high/low beam, passing light, horn, and indicators.

On the right, there is the engine kill switch and a hazard light switch that activates all four indicators simultaneously.

Seat and Comfort

The seat on the Yamaha XSR155 follows a tuck-and-roll single-piece design, adding to its vintage charm.

A belt strap runs across the middle, useful for maneuvering the bike in tight spaces. The seat offers good cushioning, making it comfortable for both the rider and pillion.

However, if the rider is broad-built, the pillion space may feel slightly limited. Still, the ergonomics are designed for a comfortable upright riding posture, suitable for daily commutes and weekend rides.

Rear Design and Suspension

Moving to the rear, you’ll notice the preload-adjustable monoshock suspension, which is the same linked-type unit seen on the R15 and MT-15.

The rear end carries a clean look with metal parts and Yamaha badging on the sides. The blue finish with a yellow stripe adds a touch of sportiness to the retro design.

The exhaust system is slightly redesigned and looks bulkier than the MT-15’s, giving it a more muscular stance.

The silver-finished muffler enhances the bike’s overall aesthetics and complements its vintage-inspired design.

Tires, Brakes, and Swingarm

At the back, the rear tire is a 140/70 section radial tire, offering better grip and stability. The rear disc brake measures 220mm, providing reliable braking performance.

The swingarm is made of aluminum, making it lightweight yet strong. It also features a protective cover to prevent dust and dirt from affecting the monoshock.

The footpegs for both rider and pillion are of excellent quality and feel durable.

The Yamaha XSR155 brings a refreshing blend of classic styling and modern technology. With a powerful 155cc engine, premium features, and retro-inspired design, it stands as a stylish yet performance-oriented motorcycle in the ₹1.5 lakh segment.
