Triumph has introduced the Tracker 400, a new motorcycle that blends flat track racing influence with modern road-going performance. 

While the design clearly nods to the brand’s long racing history, the bike is aimed squarely at today’s riders who want something distinctive, usable, and designed to deliver strong value and manageable ownership costs.

Rather than chasing retro nostalgia alone, Triumph appears to be positioning the Tracker 400 as a practical modern classic - one that looks aggressive, feels engaging to ride, and still works as an everyday motorcycle.

A Design Rooted in Racing History

Triumph’s connection to flat track racing goes back decades, to a time when the brand was competing and winning on American dirt ovals. That heritage forms the foundation of the Tracker 400’s design.

The bike’s silhouette is low and stretched, with a purposeful stance that immediately sets it apart from more traditional roadsters. A small fly screen sits above a round LED headlight, which features a distinctive daytime running light. It’s a clean, minimal front end that avoids unnecessary styling tricks.

The fuel tank is one of the most striking elements. Angular in shape and finished with large knee cutouts, it allows the rider to grip the bike securely while reinforcing the flat track aesthetic. 

A flat, extended seat runs rearward, offering enough room for movement without sacrificing comfort on longer rides.

Triumph has also added race-style number boards with a “400” graphic, along with an upswept twin-outlet exhaust that improves ground clearance while adding visual drama. At the back, a short mudguard and color-matched seat cowl keep the lines sharp and uncluttered.

Attention to Detail Sets It Apart

Up close, the Tracker 400 shows the level of finish expected from Triumph’s modern classic range. Details such as the brushed stainless steel heel guard, neatly cut exhaust heat shields, and carefully routed components give the bike a premium feel.

The engine itself is designed to look traditional despite being thoroughly modern. Although it’s water-cooled, Triumph has styled it with machined cooling fins and discreet radiator placement so it resembles a classic air-cooled motor. 

This approach helps preserve the bike’s timeless appearance while delivering modern performance and efficiency.

Instrumentation follows the same philosophy. A large analog speedometer is paired with a digital display that provides useful information including gear position, fuel range, consumption data, and a tachometer. 

It’s easy to read at a glance and avoids overwhelming the rider with unnecessary data.

Color Options With Personality

The Tracker 400 is offered in three distinct paint schemes, each giving the bike a different character. Aluminium Silver Gloss with red graphics highlights the design details, Phantom Black offers a more understated look, and Racing Yellow provides a bold option that leans heavily into the bike’s racing inspiration.

Each color choice feels deliberate, rather than decorative, and complements the overall design language.

Ergonomics Designed for Real Riders

Despite its aggressive styling, the Tracker 400 is not a difficult bike to live with. Triumph has clearly worked to make it accessible to a broad range of riders.

The seat height is set at 805 mm, and the bike’s narrow profile makes it easy to reach the ground. Wide handlebars and rear-set footpegs create an upright yet sporty riding position that works well in both urban traffic and on open roads.

The result is a bike that feels confident and involving without being intimidating, particularly for riders moving up from smaller machines.

Lightweight Chassis and Capable Suspension

Handling is a key focus of the Tracker 400. It uses a lightweight tubular steel frame with a bolt-on rear subframe, paired with an aluminum swingarm. This setup helps keep weight down while maintaining stability.

Suspension components are well-specified for the class. Up front, 43 mm upside-down forks offer 140 mm of travel, while the rear monoshock provides 130 mm and includes preload adjustment. 

The setup is tuned to handle a variety of road conditions, from rough city streets to faster, flowing back roads.

Braking performance comes from a four-piston radial front caliper with a 300 mm disc, supported by a single-piston rear caliper and a 230 mm disc. ABS is standard, offering reassurance in wet or unpredictable conditions.

Modern Safety Without Overcomplication

Triumph has equipped the Tracker 400 with rider aids that enhance confidence rather than dominate the riding experience. Switchable traction control helps manage grip on slippery surfaces, while a torque-assist clutch smooths downshifts and reduces lever effort.

These features are subtle, but they make a noticeable difference in daily use, particularly in stop-and-go traffic or changing weather.

The Most Powerful TR-Series Engine So Far

Powering the Tracker 400 is the latest version of Triumph’s TR-series engine. It produces 42 PS at 9,000 rpm and delivers 37.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm, with a redline that stretches beyond 10,000 rpm.

Updated internals, including a revised camshaft and new engine tuning, allow the motor to rev harder while maintaining smooth, linear power delivery. 

The six-speed gearbox makes good use of the engine’s broad powerband, and the exhaust note adds character without being intrusive.

It’s an engine that encourages spirited riding but remains manageable and refined for everyday use.

Ownership Costs

Triumph is also highlighting the Tracker 400’s long-term value. The bike features a fuel-efficient engine, 10,000-mile (16,000 km) service intervals, and a two-year unlimited mileage warranty as standard.

These factors help reduce ongoing costs and make the Tracker 400 a realistic ownership option rather than a weekend-only indulgence.

Built to Be Personalized

A full range of genuine accessories is available for riders who want to customize their bike. Options include bar-end mirrors, tank pads, and LED indicators, all designed specifically for the Tracker 400 and covered by the same warranty as the motorcycle itself.

This allows owners to tailor the bike to their preferences without compromising fit, finish, or reliability.
