New MG Hector Facelift: What’s Changed, What’s Improved and Who It’s For
MG launches the updated Hector facelift in India starting at Rs 11.99 lakh. Here’s what’s changed in design, interior, infotainment and features.New MG Hector Facelift Arrives: What Actually Feels New
The MG Hector has been a familiar sight on Indian roads for years now. It’s the kind of SUV you notice not because it’s flashy, but because it’s big, comfortable, and usually packed with features.MG Motor has now given the Hector a mild facelift, and while the changes may not look dramatic at first glance, they do make a difference once you spend time with the car.
Prices for the updated MG Hector start at Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom), and at that price point, MG clearly wants to hold its ground in an increasingly competitive mid-size SUV segment.
Exterior: Subtle Updates, Not a Radical Makeover
Let’s get this out of the way - this is not a full redesign. If you’re expecting a completely new Hector, you won’t find it here. What MG has done instead is clean up and modernise the existing design. The biggest visual change is the new front grille. The earlier grille had a more understated, horizontal pattern. This new one looks bolder and more upright, with a stronger chrome presence. Some buyers may still prefer the older design, but the new grille certainly gives the Hector a more premium, “SUV-like” face.
The headlights, DRLs, and fog lamps remain unchanged, which isn’t necessarily a downside since the lighting setup still looks contemporary. The lower bumper now gets additional chrome detailing, a design choice usually seen on more expensive SUVs.
New Alloy Wheels, Same Road Presence
Move to the side and you’ll notice new multi-spoke alloy wheels. They’re 18-inch units wrapped in 215/55 tyres. While a 19-inch option would have looked great, the current setup makes sense for ride comfort and Indian road conditions. The side profile itself remains identical. The strong shoulder line, chrome window surround, MG badging, and roof rails are all carried over. Ground clearance stays at 192 mm, which is more than enough for daily use.
Rear Design: Familiar but Slightly Premium
At the rear, MG has resisted the urge to overdo things. The connected LED tail lamps are still here, and they continue to look good at night.A subtle chrome insert on the rear bumper adds a touch of luxury, and the “Hector Plus” badging is now slightly larger.
Boot space remains unchanged at around 587 litres, which is still among the best in the segment.

Step Inside: The Cabin Feels Fresher
This is where the facelift actually makes a stronger impression. The upholstery has been changed, and the cabin now feels more premium than before. There’s a mix of fabric and leather finishes, and the overall colour palette feels calmer and more refined.
In the Hector Plus, the interior theme is completely different. The bluish-white ivory finish gives it a distinct identity and makes the cabin feel airier, especially when combined with the panoramic sunroof.
Rear Seat Comfort Still a Big Strength
MG has wisely not messed with one of Hector’s biggest strengths - rear seat comfort.Flat floor design
Excellent legroom
Reclining seatbacks
Rear AC vents
Adjustable seat belts
Three adults can sit comfortably in the second row, something not every SUV in this segment can claim. The only noticeable miss is the lack of sunshades, which would have made long summer drives even more comfortable.
Third Row: Usable, But Manage Expectations
Like most seven-seat SUVs in this category, the third row in the Hector Plus is best suited for children or short trips. MG has added AC vents even here, which helps, but adults will find it tight for longer journeys.Front Cabin: Better Materials, Same Layout
Up front, the dashboard now gets revised leather finishes, making it feel more premium than before. Both front seats are electrically adjustable, and ventilated seats are still part of the package, something many rivals still don’t offer at this price.Storage spaces are well thought out, and features like:
Wireless phone charging
Electronic parking brake with auto-hold
Ambient lighting with multiple colours add to the overall convenience.
Infotainment: The Real Upgrade
The 14-inch vertical touchscreen remains, but this time it actually feels usable.Earlier Hectors were criticised for laggy performance. MG has addressed this by upgrading the system hardware. With 10 GB RAM, the screen is noticeably smoother and faster.
You now get:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay
- Wireless Android Auto
- Built-in apps like JioSaavn
- Improved touch response
Where the Hector Stands Now
The MG Hector facelift doesn’t try to be something it isn’t. Instead of chasing radical design changes, MG has focused on fixing pain points - better infotainment performance, improved interior quality, and subtle design enhancements. If you’re looking for a spacious, comfortable, feature-loaded SUV that prioritises cabin experience over outright sportiness, the updated MG Hector continues to make a strong case for itself.
